6. What are the properties of materials?

Materials can be natural or man-made. 

• Natural materials come from animals, plants and minerals. Leather, wood and marble are natural materials.

• Man-made materials are made by modifying natural materials. Paper is made from wood, glass is made from sand, and plastic is made from petroleum. 

When we make something, we choose the materials because of their properties. 

Materials can be:

flexible	elastic
transparent	waterproof
strong	light
heat resistant	fragile
